Course Reflection

Image
Source: Pixabay           This course served as a unique experience for my development as a writer. I wasn't sure about the format at first or the idea of posting to a blog, but I ended up enjoying both processes. The grading and assignments were much different than traditional classes as we determined what we'd be focusing on and deemed our work complete or not. Although this was unfamiliar, I enjoyed this style of learning as it allowed for creativity and self-expression in our assignments.  I felt as though my best pieces were the critical analyses I wrote as part of my Archiving the Arts Project towards the end of the semester. I was able to improve these pieces after receiving feedback and learning more about how to develop a strong examination of each topic. The more I practiced this type of writing, the better I was able to explore deeper, more thoughtful concepts instead of just summarizing or talking about the subject.  The most...

Week 13 Website Process

Artwork from an Episode Spotlight. Source: Deviantart      Over the last two weeks, I was able to put myself in a good spot as we head into the final week of the semester. I reorganized my spotlight sections and only have about three pieces left to publish. Although I only wrote a few pieces, this was substantial progress as I finally have a completed outline for my website layout after doing a lot of editing.       I'm definitely not as motivated as I was at the beginning of the semester, I've found it harder to produce work as there are several final assignments on top of our project all due right around this time. I'm still in a good place and will finish with more than enough words, but it can get stressful trying to juggle exams and other work with so many deadlines approaching. Hopefully, I'll have more time this week as I finish my classes so I can direct my focus solely on completing my website.

Week 11 Website Process

Me vs. what I first intended on writing. Source: Pixabay      This week I really had to start grinding out sections, and I've also concluded that I actually have too much planned. Some of the pieces I have written, including the spotlight ones I added this week, were longer than I expected them to be. Considering what I have left to write, I'd be well over the 6000-word goal if I continue with my original plan. This is kind of an ironic problem (as 6000 words seemed hard to reach in the beginning). I need to find a way to reorganize, combine, or even get rid of some of the less significant pieces I first had planned for my website.      This week was definitely a little more stressful and busy than the last two. The deadlines for additional large projects in my other courses are approaching quickly, and it's tough trying to find time to work on them all. With about three weeks to go until it needs to be finished, my biggest challenge is ...

Week 10 Website Process

Source           This past week, I finalized all of the pictures/images I'm using for each piece as well as developed notes and key points I want to touch upon for each analysis. I feel like jotting down a few bullets makes the writing process more straightforward when it comes time to sit down and bang out a long piece. I still have roughly nine more different small essays I need to write, but they'll only be between 100-300 words each. This means I only need to do about three a week. I'll probably need to do some work over Thanksgiving break as we're starting to get closer to the final week. So long as I keep up with the plan I have for what's left, I'm comfortable with where I am with the project. There's not much else to update on other than the fact my page for sources needs some touching up as well. Feel free to take a quick look at my website and let me know what you think of the navigation/organization of it: https://sites.google...

Week 9 Website Process

Some cool artwork I found for my website.             I definitely got a lot more of the little things done this week on top of the introduction section of my project which was the big piece I worked on. I added notes for the points I want to touch upon in my spotlight sections for each character. This is what I'll look to work on/finish this coming week. These pages will consist of a short, probably 100-word section for each character (nine total). I've continued to use Grammarly and highly suggest it when revising work. On top of the character spotlight pages, I still need to write pieces covering the universal themes of each work as well as connecting them to society and each other. I also need to revise three of my critical analysis essays. Although there's still a lot left to do, I feel pretty confident as I probably have about 3,000 words already. I'm continuing to focus on the short term, deciding what I want to cover for the week instead of try...

Week 8 Website Process

TLOK Intro Image           This week I continued to publish some content about my topic as well as revise the critical analysis pieces I had already written. I wrote the introduction piece to  The Legend of Korra  as I had done with Avatar the week prior. I've decided to explore both works (After being on the fence about it earlier in the project) and believe my intro is a good start to that section. I also changed my layout a little bit, creating a new home page with an introduction to the project itself as well as a works cited section. I've jotted down some of the themes I want to look into for each work, as this is what makes them so great. Both shows have the ability to be appealing to all audiences. There's enough action and humor on the outside as well as deeper meanings and lessons below the surface.            It's a little stressful trying to balance this e...

Website Update

My We bsite's New Banner Art Overall I'd say my progress on developing my project over this week went OK. I have a much clearer idea of the direction I want to head. I've better planned the specific lengths and ways I'm presenting information and I'm feeling confident. I didn't get as much work done as I would've liked to as this week had been busy in other areas. I did draft an intro section as well as revisions for one of my critical analyses and This I believe essay. I've been using Grammarly a lot more to edit my work and catch grammatical mistakes as well as improve word choice. I plan to finish revising my Enlightenment and Postmodernism pieces next week as well as further develop content on my topic. I don't think I have a single finished product on my website yet, but I do like the layout of my pieces at the moment. I have a lot left to do as we are all only getting started, but I don't think it will be as challenging as I initially a...
